first name

[edit]

Izzard prefers Suzy as her first name (Suzy Eddie Izzard), but the article lists her primarily as Eddie in the title and elsewhere. this should be changed. https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/story/2023-03-07/eddie-izzard-reveals-new-name-suzy-transgender-comedian 50.100.177.116 (talk) 12:45, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Probably not. That article says, very plainly: "The comedian said she'll keep her public name as "Eddie Izzard," which she decided to maintain for the recognition." Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:49, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"which she decided to maintain for the recognition"
So just have a redirect from Eddie Izzard to Suzy Eddie Izzard. That maintains exactly what she wishes. LesbianTiamat (She/Her) (troll/pester) 03:08, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the citation! I'll move it, according to MOS:GENDERID. LesbianTiamat (She/Her) (troll/pester) 02:34, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is an encyclopedia. The subject of the article's preferences should be irrelevant. The article should state facts. Obviously, he is not a woman. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 102.165.68.174 (talk) 22:41, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Eddie IzzardSuzy Eddie IzzardMOS:GENDERID, WP:PRECISE, WP:COMMONNAME. Citation already in article (LA Times, 7 March 2023. "Call her Suzy: Eddie Izzard adds to her name so fans ‘can’t make a mistake’"). Quote from Izzard: “So, I’m going to be Suzy Eddie Izzard. That’s how I’m going to roll so people can choose what they want.” LesbianTiamat (She/Her) (troll/pester) 03:05, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • I lean oppose here on the basis that Wikipedia articles generally use people's public-facing names, not private, and my reading of the L.A. Times article is that Izzard uses "Suzy Eddie" privately and "Eddie" publicly. This is seen in both Izzard's comments and the fact that the Times article continues to call her "Eddie". What I would suggest is a clearer lede, something like Suzy Eddie Izzard (/ˈɪzɑːrd/; born 7 February 1962 as Edward John "Eddie" Izzard and still known by that nickname professionally). Now, if there is newer information that she prefers "Suzy Eddie" in all contexts, then I would support. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (they|xe) 03:18, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Retracting move request. Okay, that sounds like a good lede. I'll implement it. The redirect from Suzy Eddie Izzard is already set up, and she doesn't mind which name, so whether this page is moved is unimportant. LesbianTiamat (She/Her) (troll/pester) 03:22, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
